【The History and Significance of the Dragon Boat Festival Celebration】
The Dragon Boat Festival is an ancient Chinese tradition that dates back to more than 2,000 years. It falls on the fifth day of the fifth lunar month every year.
The Dragon Boat Festival is the first festival after the beginning of summer. People used to think that when the temperature rises, so begins a period of frequent diseases. Therefore, it is customary to hang wormwood and sprinkle realgar in front of entrances to repel diseases, prevent mosquitoes, ward off evil spirits, and expel plagues, making the festival a day to rid bad luck.
Celebrating the Dragon Boat Festival is also a way for people to pray for agricultural harvest, good weather, peace and prosperity for the country and the people, as well as to express people's good wishes.
Today, the Dragon Boat Festival is a highly popular festival among Chinese and even Southeast Asian countries. In September 2009, the Dragon Boat Festival was officially reviewed and approved by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization as one of the World's Intangible Cultural Heritage.
Significance: It reflects that the new city government attaches great importance to the contribution of Asians to American society. The series of activities held have also become a show of tolerance and multiculturalism in American society. Such celebrations enhance mutual understanding among various ethnic groups, and encourage more Asian ethnic groups to serve the community and contribute to the larger society.

端午节是中国古老的传统，可以追溯到2000多年前。它是每年农历五月初五。
端午节是立夏后的第一个节日。人们过去认为，气温升高，疾病多发的时期就开始了。因此，人们习惯将艾草和雄黄挂在入口前，以防病、防蚊、辟邪、驱邪，使节日成为驱邪的日子。
过端午节也是人们祈求农业丰收、风调雨顺、国泰民安的一种方式，也是表达人们美好愿望的一种方式。
如今，端午节已成为中国乃至东南亚国家高度流行的节日。 2009年9月，端午节被联合国教育、科学及文化组织正式审查批准为世界非物质文化遗产之一。
意义：反映新市政府高度重视亚裔对美国社会的贡献。举办的系列活动也成为美国社会宽容和多元文化的体现。这样的庆祝活动增进了各族群之间的相互了解，并鼓励更多的亚裔族群为社区服务，为更大的社会做出贡献。
